They couldn't change the words, but they were able to change the tunes and melodies, from happy, exciting, family and kids friendly to Secular tunes and melodies that are extremely boring and anti-all the above.
If you compare today's Christmas songs and carols with the original versions, you'll be horrified to see how much damage they have done to the Christian traditions during the last 100 years, and still!
Thank you for this reminder! I've done the "Merry Christmas" response each time I get a "holiday" greeting. Some look shocked, and some smile, perhaps bashfully knowing that they don't have the ability (work mandate, internal fear) to say the same to everyone.
And if it's said sincerely and with peace, it makes a bigger impact. I'm not here to impose it on you, but as you perfectly stated, to bestow a blessing and best wishes.

P.S. I'm shocked at the church announcement. How come they didn't just say "Santa is coming" as well? Our church removed Santa from the program years ago, and I'm grateful they did. I'm too tired of the commercialization. Huh... come to think of it, I haven't seen many Santa references either!! Are they trying to wipe that out too? Any tradition?
